I've heard of this shrinkage but have (ahem) no personal experience with said problem. Stop sniggering, Browndog.

I feel like crapping my pants when I know what the route rating is. Going sans guide is in many ways easier for me because I don't feel any pressure but than to have fun, but I will back off more quickly. Rob, you are a visionary.

I remember catching an Aya fall on that pin... there is some other gear not too far away - in the place Dave mentioned above and to the right. But the problem for the nervous 5.8 leader is getting there

My bad. I was thinking that the #1 was the little silver C3, instead it is the red one. Roughly the range of a green alien but narrower head and more than adequate.

Curt, if you think anyone has to "foment mistrust" and "create problems between the Mohonk Preserve and its neighbors" you really have your head stuck in the sand.

Thanks The Lisa. RR - I think they got tired of trolls and it's an attempt to keep them out.

So in an effort to go sans guide book and do some exploring, I have been looking for good lines in the middle of the Nears. Yes yes, they've all been done I understand, but they haven't been done by me. A lot of these routes are in almost first asc

I'll second this, you can rap High E with two "genuine" 60's but remember that ropes shrink and you may have to watch carefully at the bottom. That's how we realised that one of our 60m ropes had woefully shrunk!

The number one C3 is good, can be placed with lobes tucked into a little constriction. Other more shallow smaller cams will go in and beside where the pin sat and could be equalized. The pin was not very deep, the bottom lip of the horizontal stick

Nothing set in stone(har har). I am there for the Facelift CleanUp, and whatever climbing I get in is a perk(though of course I will get some climbing in, and may even have my own personal, ultra-handsome/sexy ropegun for some of the days).....
