If anyone is interested in exploring little visited areas of the ridge, lots of bushwhacking, the possiblity of getting helplessly mired in laurel and scrub oak, then drop me a line. You will see some cool things though. Familiarity with map, compass and GPS is preferred, lest you get irreversibly lost.

So Retn2rock and I got out last week for a fine day of ridge exploring.Beautiful temps and brilliant skies made for a spectacular day. Here are some of the things we saw, courtesy of Chris's camera.....

That was a picture of a ice impression of a laurel leaf from an ice storm a few days prior. The laurel was covered on one side with this things and bushwhacking through it was like a bull walking through a china shop. Luckily it was cold so we weren't getting wet in the process. The next picture is looking at the north rim of North Gully from the Sam's Point plateau. How many people have ever been to Indian Rock at Sam's Point?

I've come in to Sam's point a few times for hiking out to Verkeederkill Falls and the great little swimming hole nearby. It's a fantastic place. And the initial walk up to the point has some beautiful rock. The short pines on the trail out to the falls are quite magical, especially late in the day when no one else is around. On one trip, we beat a massive t-storm back to the car. When it opened up moments later, I thought the world was coming to an end. As we drove out, we noticed the power was out in several towns. Surreal experience.

Anyone ever been to the ice caves?
