I tried to go to Leavenworth a couple of years ago in April as well. After driving about 3 or more hours from Portland (or perhaps it was Seattle), we got to town to find out that we'd have to wade out through about 4 feet of snow. I think the hike in to the climb we wanted to do was about 1.5 hours--so we bailed. Ended up going to a small crag another hour away called Pishasta (sp?) Pinnacles--which was some nice smooth granite domes. Lots of friction work, bolted and pretty cool if you're out there already. It's also right next to an apple orchard that has a jar out for deposits when you withdraw apples.

Enjoy.

Lawrence,

If your still planning on climbing in April be prepared for some cold nights and icy conditions. I'm not to familiar with the climbing in the area, but I know were to find the good beer. Stop by the Leavanworth Brewery for a few pints of Dunkelweizen (blind pig)stout. If you like a good micro, you will not be dissappointed.

This month's Rock and Ice (April 00 issue?) has a *short* article on Leavenworth, Washington. I think its two or three pages long, but worth a look.

There is also a feature about climbing in the midwest. Weird.
