Aya, I think you'll find that there is actually a specific pattern to what you're talking about.
If you click into a forum but don't read all the threads therein, you'll still get a "no unread" when you go back to the top level page. The server has recorded the time of your last visit to the forum and is indicating that there are no new messages since your last visit. If you go into each forum, you'll still be able to see which threads are unread.
The "new forum" thing is a minor glitch I have been seeing for years, but I've never noticed it causing any real problems with the read/unread. (Maybe I just didn't notice.)

no no, that's why I edited to clear it up. I occasionally get it telling me that the forums are ALL UNREAD... even when I know I've read them... but it still has me own as being logged in (so at least that cookie is working right...)... eh, like I said, a bit of clicking around usually clears it up (but oddly, refreshing the page does NOT fix it up).. who knows *shrug*

Oh, ok, I've seen that one too, but it might be slightly different from what I've seen. You can try logging out (and back in) or closing your browser completely (all windows), or both.

do you click through the forums or do you click on the link of the last new post?
i have found that if i click through the forum, the new posts unread thing turns off, where as if i say clicked on your last post since that is whats shown, it would still come up as unread.

I wasn't serious about the webmaster part (gunks.com is wonderfully run, and I was only trying to josh, honest). I should have stuck in one of those smiley thingies, except I was in a rush, and besides I was seriously curious as to what people actually use, and didn't want to indicate that my curiosity was a joke. Personally, I'm on IE with nary a problem, but I've also used other browsers with no problems either. I realize server software may keep such records, but some programs don't. The data would be easy to gather in any event.
