They could be just the intergalactic equivalent of a group of drunken college sororiety girls that manage to find the beach on their visit to Panama City for Spring break. Smart enough to work the peddles and steer the vehicle, but not quite sentient enough to check the oil at regular intervals or find their way back home without asking for some help from a stranger. _________________________

Ever wonder why most descriptions of aliens by people who claim to have seen one are of bipeds with spindly arms and legs with big heads and big eyes, like in Close Encounters. And not slimy three headed silicone based life forms with tentacles. It's because they are really what's left of the Human race, and have travelled back in time to collect genetic material to keep the dying race going.
