Hi Everyone - I know this is a longshot, but when a dog goes missing, getting the word spread far and wide, quickly, can make the difference between the animal being reunited with their people or not.

I run a dog walking service, and one of my old clients just emailed me that their dog, Harry, has gone missing. They were on vacation, and Harry was being boarded in Athens, NY (Green County). Apparently, some of the dogs got agitated by something while outside, and got through a fence to go after it. 3 of 4 dogs returned, but not Harry. This happened on Saturday, 6/3, in the evening.

Harry's people have a home in New Paltz, and though I know that Athens is quite far from NP, I have to hope he is trying to find his way back there. Also, that some of you may live in an area that is between Athens and New Paltz, and might possibly have seen Harry. I have asked Harry's mom if she has a photo of him, and if so, I will add that to this post asap. In the interim, here is his description.

Harry is a pretty big dog, maybe 90 pounds or so. He looks like your average German Shephard "mix." But quite beefy. He has a purple tongue. He answers to his name. He can give the impression of being a dog you might be a little intimidated by, but he is absolutely a big muush, and sweet and very gentle. He doesn't bark much, but his sound is a deep "woof." His coat is medium lenght hair, tan legs. He did have a collar with tags on when he went missing. Hopefully they are still on him!

Please forward this post to everyone that you can think of, if you feel inclined. If anyone has any leads, feel free to email me at Happiegrrrl@aol.com. I will pass the info to Harry's people.

Thank you.

ok, not to state the obvious, but the dog went missing on 6/3, and you posted this on 6/13 - that's "quickly"?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I figured someone would say that. Glad you can be so helpful.

At any rate, Harry has still not been located. I saw his people this weekend in New Paltz and thay are just so heartbroken. Still hoping that Harry is taking the backcountry bushwaching trail and finding his way home, but of course, it's now been two weeks.

What an awful thing it must be, to have your dog go missing like that. Please send out a litte "Here Boy!" to Harry and make an image of New Paltz in your mind.

Have his owners gotten in touch with all the municipal animal pounds between home and his escape point?

If he is as friendly and sociable as he's been described, maybe someone has taken him in. Small comfort, I know.

Yes - they did go to every single possible place in the area. And posted tons of "Lost Dog" flyers around up there where he was being boarded. The boarding place is in the country, unfortunately, with not so many other homes around.

I know that his people also hope he was taken in by someone. That was the way that they found Harry in the first place(8 years ago). He had been out walking the countryside(he was very thin) and came "knockin" on someone's door, like a hobo looking for a handout. Let's hope he finds a kind soul this time.

Great News!!!! Harry is home! He actually found his way back to the house that had been boarding him. His mom called me this evening to let me know, and she sounded exhausted - now I think she is allowing herself to feel the anger at the boarding facility for allowing the dogs to be unattended long enough that they could break out..... She said Harry is tired and skinny, but seems to be okay. He is going to the vet tomorrow to get a check up.

Thanks to anyone that sent their thoughts for Harry's safe return.
