I don't mind at all. The geopolotical situation in the middle east has always been vexing. The intensity of that vexation has increased markedly with the proliferation of nuclear technology and the simultaneous rise of religious fundamentalism and political conservativism. Strange and scary indeed.

Are you using the right nomenclature here? I have some idea of what you mean and it isn't really either of the above. Neither religious fundamentalism nor political conservatism induces a bellicose posture. The true adherent to any major religion and the true conservative both desire peace.
I'd propose religious fanaticism and jingoism be substituted for the italicized terms above.
