What is everyone doing with their old used ropes? Rumor has it that there is a company that makes rugs out of them and maybe even hammocks? Does anyone know of a trade in where you could possibly send it back to the manufacturer and get some kind of break on new ropes?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

I've only seen/read of climbers making thier own rugs from old rope. A search on this site should bring it up. I have used mine to make tire swings and rope swings for my kids and at neighbor's homes. It is amazing haw soon those old ropes start to look bleached when out 24/7.

I have one and i use it in the vanagon. It's great, i would definately get it done again. I need a new doormat for the house so this may be a good time to get one.

My latest no-longer-useable rope is up on EBay this week. Search on "retired rope". Meet me in NP and avoid the shipping $. Then sell the resulting rope rug for $40.

I made one once from a kit. (Someone gave it to me as a Christmas present - don't laugh.) Surprising how much rope it takes to make not so much rug.

I recall a similar thread here a couple of years ago. We determined it would take a great length of rope to make a 9'x12' rug and that it would be remarkably heavy.
