I have two mountain bikes now and I'm thinking about riding one this winter until the snow is good enough for skiing. Has anyone purchased and used studded tires on a mountain bike? I know the online catalogs sell them. Or better yet, has anyone ever made a set, with say short hex screws?

crackers Carpal Tunnel Registered: 03/21/01 Posts: 3424 Loc: pdx	yes. i made my own from old smokes and short drywall screws. really short drywall screws. i put them thru the divot in the smoke's main tread pattern. line the tire with a couple of layers of duct tape or mr tuffy. it works. it takes some getting used to, but it works.

I live in the Champlain valley so the big lake holds some interesting possibilities. Your adventure on the icy mohonk trails are what I was thinking of when I posted my question. I live near many miles of trails that are on paper company land that are great to ski on when the snow is good. Last year was so mild the trails were never good for skiing so I thought the biking would be a great way to cross train. Thanks. Kevin
