I don't know what you people are complaining about. Exhorbitant gas prices are EXACTLY what we need in this country to make us appreciate what we have. I say...make it 5 bucks a gallon. People will learn pretty quickly to buy fuel efficient vehicle sand only drive when necessary. There should like like a 3 or 4 dollar tax on every gallon with that money going directly into environmental research and initiatives
RR
Rob, You sound like Pete Townshend. In fact, that's the thesis behind most of his Psychoderelict Album. When you start to sound like Pete Townshend you either a) have to be a prolific song writer and major influencer of pop culture for the past 40 years or b) certifiably insane and escorted around in a straight jacket.
For each one of us that is ringing our hands and worrying about the impact of driving a car that gets 22mpg on the planet there are 150 chinese people manufacturing the things we sit on, the utensils we eat with, and the clothes we wear. And standing on the new side of shanghai looking through the smog a 1/4 mile to the old side and having difficulty distinguishing cars from people leads me to believe they don't care too much...
But it's also true that these countries are at radically different points from the US along the industrialisation scale. Over the last 30 years, using inefficient, highly polluting motors and processes probably made little environmental difference in these countries, given the low density of industrialisation, and was probably more economical in most instances. As the number of cars and power plants in China continues to rapidly expand though, one would hope that a certain level of environmental awareness will emerge, and that they will move towards cleaning up somewhat. Most countries go through something roughly similar as they industrialize. In fact recent environmental catastrophies have started to make people there more aware of what may be at stake
Anyway, the point of all this is to say that while any reductions we make in the emissions of greenhouse gases may be marginal, at the global level, in the medium term, there is still an arguement to be made for sensible and moderate efforts to curb emissions.
Dammit, if the world heats up much more, there'll be NO DAKSFEST ANY MORE!!!!!!! Think about that

DacksFest goes on whether it's Ice or Mud.
The NEI scale is easily traded for the AM scale.
And, if I read your reply to me right, you are a "definite possibility" for DF 5.0!

Well now that you have introduced real evidence, using the 1 month average I clearly see a minimum exactly on Election Day, and a six cent rise on either side. The difference seems larger; at least 10 cents here where I am buying gas in SJ. But, I admit we'll have to wait longer for real proof.
Any bets? How bout 2:1 we see at least another 10 cents in the next month using the linked site?

For a real MudFest you need to go hillwalking in the west of Ireland, in December........... even thinking of it brings back shivers...

Commenting again on the chart I see an 80 cent drop in the two months before the election. That's pretty significant. I'd been predicting a drop long before it began. Looks like the rate of return might be picking up now too.

I wished I lived in a la-la land where conspiracy theories were the explanation for everything and market dynamics, weather, etc had nothing to do with anything. I am sure it would be so much interesting an existance for me.

Im assuming it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see that the rise and fall of gas prices corresponds to the beginning and end of the annual driving season demand. Given that the annual elections fall on the tail end of the annual decrease in gas, this should clearly show that the republicans are at work in manipulating prices to sway votes in Nov.... but of course, it can be no other reason....
