yeah yeah yeah...ya'll had a good time in the Adirondacks while I worked. You suck. But guess who got to lead 100' of phat, virgin, grade 4 ice on Monday in the Catskills?? Of course LTL and Dillbag would have rated it 2+ or 3-, but that's only because their muscles are bigger than their brains.

The white birch is (part of) the classic anchor at the top of RBF.
Not that one needs an anchor.
If one falls from there, one deserves to fall.

While Dennis may claim a block of ice hit him in the nose, the real cause was his saying something insensitive (the words "fat, nearsighted weakling" come to mind), and I had to take him down a peg. I went to punch him, but I forgot to put down the ice tool I had in my hand at the moment.

Whoever said drinking and ice don't mix!

Better weather then I had on Friday..... got to the trailhead and it was -10F, but it warmed up to 5F with a 25 to 35mph wind and the snow was being blown upwards. made it fun to do this climb.

best day of ice all year yesterday at Stoney Clove. Weather was beautiful with sunny temps in the low 30's and a wicked wind blowing spindrift everywhere. The Little Black Dike felt like the real deal because of all the spindrift blasting us in the face. Ice was super plastic, which is good because it was mostly unbonded from the wall. most of the pick scars have healed over and left smooth, soft ice. We did some line to the right of the Curtain that has two side by side flows on the second pitch. I had never done either of these. We soloed the first pitch because it wouldn't take screws. The left hand flow was one of the best 3+ pitches I have ever done in the Catskills. Beautiful. Snow on the talus was 2-3 feet and at the base was closer to 4-5 feet. Harest part of the day was trench digging from route to route. Alas, I fear that was the last hoorah for me this year.
