Or like MOVE in Phila in the 70's and 80's. Just because people are different, live communally, have a different faith, and refuse to pay taxes/utility bills/and have lots of dogs in the yard is no reason to lay siege on a home. What ya'll fail to get is that Govt (in my lifetime) doesn't really like any dissent. Don't toe the line, be eliminated. Pretty frightening actually for free thinking individuals. Just sayin....
Isn't that a bit of an exaggeration? Aren't there lots of people who dissent, and who express dissent, who are not presently having their homes besieged by the federal government?
The MOVE incident was obviously a tragic overreaction. The Branch Davidians should have been handled differently. But I think it's a mistake to take a handful of government errors and extrapolate them into a claim that government doesn't tolerate dissent. I'd bet one could find plenty of people in Idaho who have never been hassled, much less besieged. Seems to me, based on the evidence, that people are pretty free to think what they want and live how they want.
