Out West, Pinnacles National Monument is probably where most Bay Area climbers go for full day trips when they can't get out to the Valley. Also, though it's not a big area, tons of Bay Area people go for the day/afternoon to Castle Rock/Indian Rock. There's a lot of traffic at both areas.

Definitely add Looking Glass to the Southeast, and maybe Rumbling Bald. Definitely put Cannon separate from Cathedral/Whitehorse.

(oh and Tuolumne has an n in it and only one o)

I'll second a separate section for desert, also adding the Colorado National Monument area and Virgin River Gorge to those previously mentioned. I think separating Owens River Gorge from the Sierras also makes sense.

Agree with Andrew about adding Cochise Stronghold, Mt Lemmon and Sedona/Flagstaff (includes Sedona/ Paradise Forks/Jacks.....)

For California I'd also add

Needles and Idywyld Area (ok, my spelling sucks).

whilethe Pinnacles may be an area that many Bay Area residence go if you were choosing a 50 destination list, I doubt it would make the make. Would be like adding Taylors Falls for the Midwest List

Well, no, though I have never heard of Taylors Falls, I suspect adding Pinnacles would not be the same. If it is a website that is to help people find climbing partners, I suspect that the Bay Area has one of the larger populations of climbers in the US, and if they're all going to Pinnacles the way NYC residents go to the Gunks (for the day), it's a lot of people who are going to be potentially be looking for partners there. Like I said, I have not heard of Taylors Falls, but my initial suspicion is that a population of climbers of the same magnitude as the Bay Area does not exist in the midwest? At any rate, I'll guess that it's not worth all that much discussion because I suppose Evan will make up his site with whatever areas he comes up with, then as he starts getting feedback for demand he'll tweak it?

Having been an active climber in the Bay Area for 6 yrs I would have to say that there was no one area that they would all go to. On a good weekend (that was less then 100F at the Pinnacles,. you would have maybe 75 climbers there, probably about the same at Castle Rock, maybe 15 at Boy Scout Rock, maybe 4-6 at Mickeys Beach, a lot making the drive to the Tahoe area, a lot going to Yosemite and a few to Calavaras Dome. Unlike the East Coast climbers there was really no focus on any one specific area.

It's probably better that I place most of the areas now so that I know how many regions to create. I'd like to set up the regions so that people will see a reasonable number of climbing destinations on one screen (there's probably room for 20 - 30 per region. I think the regions should probably be geared to the major climbing population centers, so that if you're in San Fran, you see a list of the most likely crags you're likely to visit.

One nice thing about the new system is that users are free to mix and match destinations from any number of regions, and see the what going on at their favorite crags from just one page.

you could always just have a SF bay area and have that encompass things like pinnales, berkley boulders, Catsle crags etc. I would separate north tahoe from south tahoe.

East side stuff like bishop, whitney, etc.

Splitting Tahoe into North and South does usually make sense but you put Lovers Leap, Phantom Spires and Sugarloaf into the South section?

In the Northwest Squamish trumps both Leavenworth and Smith. Really they should rank:

1) Squamish
2) Smith Rock
3) Leavenworth
4) City of Rocks

Sqaumish is about the only thing that even remotely compares to the Gunks BTW. You don't come here for cragging; it's all about alpine.

1) Squamish

Not a US climbing destination.
