Just a heads up - the New Paltz police seem to be using the hideout in the woods again. It's on the right just past Butterville Rd as you're heading out to the cliff from town. Saw smokey in there this morning. He'll light you up with radar as you come over the crest of the hill.

That said, I'm not sure if the speed limit there is 45 or 55. I drive like it's 55.

The speed limit is not posted, but there is an "end 35mph limit" sign, which in New York State generally means that you are now in the statewide limit zone which is 55... should be 55 either way because it's 55 between new paltz and poughkeepsie/highland until you hit the reduced speed zone in new paltz.

Where on 299 on the way to the cliffs is there and "end 35mph limit" sign?

Speed limit in the Village is 30mph, all the way to the River. After that, I don't think there are any signs at all. That is what confuses visitors- they think that 35 or 40 is a great speed, leading to caravans of vehicles crawling, and some stupid drivers passing on the double yellow.
