Well, I try my best to avoid running at all costs, but Sunday afternoon Joe Brown put together a fun run on the trails at Onteora Lake (Bluestone Wild Forest) and I just had to make an exception. The event was to celebrate Dick Vincent's unbelievable streak of running every day for the past 33 years. About 11 people showed up and it was indeed fun! Dick was inevitably asked the obvious questions, but his closest call (to breaking the streak) came when he was hit by a car while cycling. As he was being prepped for elbow surgery he was informed that the surgeon wouldn't be there for an hour and a half... so Dick went out and ran 15 painful minutes.
I had the chance to run with Dick on one other occasion, last years Blueberry Run, the final race of the New Paltz Summer Series up at Minniwaska. What made this particularly interesting was it was the day after we both ran the Escarpment Trail Race, he being the originator of that crazy event. Dick was there to continue the streak and I was there to complete the 4 race series and qualify for my commemorative mug. It's a bit of an understatement to say we both struggled physically through it but good converstion kept our minds off the pain. I'll never forget the beautiful view of the Catskills in the fading light that greeted us on our jog down to the finish at Lake Miniwaska.
Hats off to you Dick Vincent and many more fun miles to go.

BTW the single track trails at Bluestone Wild Forest are a good alternative for trail running/ Mt. Biking
