There is a peat bog not more than a thousand feet from the Trapps cliff face. Do you know where it is?

It's on the third pitch of The Snake. I know, I've done that route.

Near the intersection of Rhododendren Rd. and Undercliff Rd., (toward the rear of the Trapps)?

Good guess. There might be peat there, but it's not that close to the cliff. The one I have in mind is a bit less than a thousand feet from an actively climbed part of the Trapps.

The source of the "spring" at the Uberfall. Follow the stream above Ken's Crack back away from the cliff and you come to a pretty damned neat wetland area. That's probably 1,000' or less.

Nope. The Stairmaster comes up well to the north of that. The peat bog is well on top of the Trapps. That marshy bog area with the occasional dead deer that feeds the spring isn't a peat bog.

Where's that? Perhaps I don't know the Gunks as well as I'd thought.

I found a hidden pond. Wouldn't want to swim in that sucker, though. It's teeming with lots of critters.

via the old trail that goes by the rock garden. yes that whole trail is perfect for laurels. nice out of the way place to get some sun on the rocks.
