Anyone know anything about the accident on Glypnod today?

Saw the injured party on a litter in the back of the truck headed out on the carriage road...

Hope everyone involved is ok!

Hearing sirens approach the cliff sure raises the hair on the back of my neck. I was told the leader was a bit run out above the GT. Took a whipper and kissed the cliff face first. Concussion and facial lacerations, but conscious on the way out. I wish the climber a speedy and complete recovery!

Glad to hear it wasn't more serious!

There was an accident on three pines yesterday. My friends called the ranger and helped carry out the litter. Injuries were what KathyS described.

I was in the Nears and heard the sirens. Hope the climber recovers soon!

Here's a link to my friend's report:

"dude took a factor 2 fall and, as his belayer put it, "his face caught him." You can probably imagine what that looked like...a lot of blood, and a very nasty tear beneath his nose that opened up enough to allow me to see right inside. He was also in and out of consciousness while still on the cliff, but was conscious when his partner lowered him (though he had no idea what had happened).

I hung out with him and talked with him for a bit, trying to answer whatever questions I could answer. I let him know what his injury was (he thought he'd ripped his nose off...I assume he just felt a gaping hole in that general vicinity and couldn't figure out its exact location), and Alison brought some napkins over to help with the bleeding. I had him apply pressure to the cut, and instructed him not to touch it or move his upper lip too much (which was causing the wound to open more, and then spew more blood -- sorry for the graphic description!).

The rangers arrived after about 10 minutes, and we spent the next hour getting him down to the carriage road on a litter. A bunch of folks helped out -- it was good to see people band together to help a stranger, and though he was definitely in a bit of shock, I know he was grateful for the assistance.

All in all, it was a good lesson, and I think it'll turn out okay for him as well. Send good thoughts his way! (Carlos is his name...)"

Hoping that isn't Carlos from Philly Go Vertical? A strong leader, but we can all make a mistake, eh?
