We're all done. Lots of fun. Not a top 10 finish, maybe a top 3rd. They have an ultra division with 6 or fewer people. What do you think Lisa? Want to form an ultra team of climbers?

Way to go, Dawn and Steve! Hope you had a great time - I hear it is quite an endurance event since when you are not running you are crammed in a van supporting others and trying to nap.

Cool that they have an ultra division - I would be in, definitely. Although the words 'ultra' and 'climbing' are probably not meant to go together - I read that running can eat away the muscle needed for climbing if one is not careful but I love both sports.

Let me know your team name(s) so I can check the site.

We were the Red Eye Runners.

Finally got the TR done: http://dawnalguard.com/climbing/2008/09/reach-beach-2008.html and there's a link there to Steve's version.

That is a well-written report, Dawn - you captured it so well! Glad you had a great time and that the Red Eye Runners did so well overall.
I am so glad that walking the hills works for you - works for me too. You never fall much off the back of those who persist in running the hills, and when you get to the top you are fresh enough to pound the downhill while others are panting.

Thanks. I did 4 hours on Saturday getting ready to run my first marathon (Hartford). It reminded me of something painted on one of the vans at the relay: "Speed kills. We're safe."

Given that you have already run a 50K, a marathon will be no bother to you. Even if it is on road . It looks to be a pretty course.
Are you and Steve going to run the Wagathon on November 09? It will be a lot of fun.

Steve ought to run the Wagathon but he's probably going to be at Stonecat. Our friend Kevin from the relay is going to be running Stonecat as his first ultra. He's paced Steve in both VT 100s but he's never run his own race.

They have a marathon option which I might do if Steve decides he's running (as opposed to just cheering).

Stone Cat is a really nice race - Gil's Athletic Club are a great group of people. The course is so very runnable. Kevin will really enjoy it.
It was my first marathon - I did not build up to it or follow a training schedule or taper, just jumped in and figured I could hike it if I could not run all of it. However, it was a freezing cold morning so I was well motivated to keep running. The Stone Cat Ale served at the finish is also good motivation. \:\)

Kevin's been training hard. Will you be at Stonecat? Maybe you and Kevin and I could get together and talk about a RTB team. We were only scabs for the team we were on this year and we're definitely interested in putting something together for next year.

Wish me luck this weekend. I've got a minor injury thanks to trying to train for speed (speed kills) but I'm staying off it this week and I'm running full out on Saturday regardless.
