Just got a request for donation from the Preserve in regards to the acquisition of Giant's Ledges. Never been there...is there any climbing in this area?

Could be. I hiked up there a few years ago in a light rain with my son when he was about 8. If it had been nice and I had gear I would have rapped off to check it out.

Something climbable - very likely.
Big area - doubt it.

It is interesting the MP is interested in it. I think that area in general is worth preserving. Giants Ledge and adjacent Slide Mt seem to be strong attractions. Giants Ledge would be a great foot hold.

Is it the same crapola rock as in the rest of the catskills? I'd guess a scary and crumbly "climb it if you dare" at best.

Gaints Ledges is the northern end of the ridge, same rock as the gunks.

Anyone want to post up a link with a map? I wouldn't mind seeing it, and I'm sure "Map-Expert" up there could use a hand...

Yup. Not the same as the Panther Mt spur in the Catskills (where there is some POTENTIALLY climbable rock, FYI).

Aren't we talking about Giant's Workshop, not Giant's Ledges, then?

I thought the Preserve already owned it. Either way, there is climbing at the Workshop.

Go F yourself, Dill, or I'll pull your shoe off.

No, Giants Ledge is near (just east and north I think) of Slide Mt. Giants Ledge is one of the highest and more scenic places you can camp in the area, which is one reason it's popular.

Since I writng again, my impression, and thats all it is, was that there might be a few one pitch routes. - more for fun and the setting than the climbing itself. The rock quality looked good - like compact Gunks rock, but it might not connect up from top to bottom, and didn't look to have horizontals and the easy protection of the Gunks. Still it would be fun to camp and climb at your door!

I was interested in exploring, but not expecting much.
