Us: a Filipino, an Irish redhead, and a tall skinny guy; climbing in the vicinity of Jackie, Son of Easy O, and Pas de Deux on Sunday.

You: Mistakenly took three of our cams. Please return.

The cams were either stolen from inside my pack, or (assuming I left them sitting on top of the pack) somebody grabbed them by mistake while packing up their own stuff.

From the top of your pack? By "mistake"? You're being too kind.

Equally possible that I left them sitting on a rock at the bottom of Son of Easy O... either way, we searched at the base of every climb we'd done that day, and they were missing. I don't know, in all the years I've been at the Gunks, I've never had anything stolen, so this has been a bit of a wake-up call.

Even if someone picked them up - I'd expect a fellow climber to try pretty darn hard to find the owner and return them. It's disappointing that you've heard nothing, Ped. Please update if you do ....

Yeah, this wasn't really something that I "lost"; I know I left it at the base of the climb, it was just Ed's #3 and two other microcams that were not needed for the climb. They weren't there when we got back. I'm trying to assume it's just a mistake but it ain't easy.

Have you called the Visitor Center? If someone found them, they may have given to a ranger, or dropped them at the VC, instead of tacking to the kiosk, out of concern someone would help themselves to the gear if they dad.

As well - if the Visitor Center is aware you have lost them, them if someone turns them in at a later point, they wil have your info.

I can see how somebody MIGHT be worried of being labeled a thief with a modicum of conscience/guilt by returning them direct...and by dropping them at the VC, it would enable them to anonymously return them.

As for thefts at the cliff - well, I have never had it happen either, but when I go up a route without something, if I don't put it IN the pack and clip the lid, I always have a twinge of that "opportunity" saying about how someone might not go INTO the pack, but if no one's around to see them, they could so easily pick it up and go.....

Of course, I have my ferocious watchdog to guard my stuff....

Hope you get them back. An expensive loss.

Teddy will probably lick their hand as they steal the gear!
