Haven't been on the site in a long time, but I saw in the "route" section that "Wegetables" was rated 5.10+. Is this an upgrade or is this route taking both pitches into consideration. I thought the first pitch was considered easy 5.10a.

The route list has been around before the recent guide and has never been updated. I'm pretty sure the grades are thus based on the 1991 black Dick. The most recent grey Dick lists Wegetables as 10a.

That rating is for, I believe, the second pitch.

For people who venture above the first pitch anchor it wil be 5.10cish. Short, but actually a pretty wild roof. Once again, you reallyhaven't done the route unless you've done both pitches.

Wegetables is one of my favorite 5.10s in the Gunks - I think it would get a lot more traffic if it weren't so far down. Isn't Tennish Anyone right next to it? I remember that being harder, or at least more awkward. . .I could of course look it up in the book, if I felt like walking out to my car.

I don't, however, remember P2 - are there bolts or slings at the top of P1 that would have allowed us to do only one pitch, or am I just forgetting it?

Slings are off to the right above Tennish on a small tree, usually one builds a gear anchor directly above Wegetables

P1 of Wegetables is easy 10. Tennish is definitely harder and often TR'd.

In addition to RR's reasonable claim that you need to continue above the anchor to do the climb: you can continue to the left of the usual anchor at 8+. you can traverse about 10 ft left or diagonal up (not well protected) to a really fun roof/corner. above the roof is easy and still very dirty and deserves some traffic to be cleaned. i did it in one pitch on doubles with some substantial rope drag that could have been managed better if it hadnt been a spur of the moment decision to keep climbing.

get out and climb it - it's a nice walk!
