If you didn't already know, Dickie Barre has been proposed as a possible new area to be opened for climbing in Minnewaska.
There will be a public hearing on Thursday, Oct. 22 regarding this and other items on the park's Master Plan Draft. http://www.nysparks.state.ny.us/newsroom/press-releases/release.aspx?r=756
For your perusal, The Master Plan http://www.nysparks.state.ny.us/inside-our-agency/public-documents.aspx
Is there only 30 routes possible up there, as the Plan says?
Perhaps we could also rally the troops to help with the trail construction and other work that needs to be done in preparation for climbing, now that the Park's manpower has been cut.

Possible routes? What are the chances it's remained unclimbed in the past? smile

Who's going to be the first to publish a new guide to the area? Or should it remain undocumented even though it's not on Preserve property?

Its not unclimbed, it's also not unbolted in spots. Certainly worth consideration into opening it up legally.

I've picked blueberries up there. There are several obvious lines, but I'd peg 30 routes as something of an upper limit.

As for a guidebook, I expect whoever puts out the next PK guide will strive to include the new cliff as well. In the absence of a book, check out MountainProject.com. If/when it opens, that is.

It seems some parts will be closed to climbing, ecologically sensitive. Check out Chapter 6 in the Master Plan. I'm reading this all now.
Looks like a "primitive" camping area, with showers,is in the mix. Is this the Forever campground? (As in taking forever) What would this have to do with Minnewaska?

Ive been up there a couple of times theres a couple good lines a bunch of shorter stuff and some bouldering. Wondering if it will include the far left of LC where park lands start? It was posted heavily in recent time.

Open it. It's a sweet little area, not that I've ever been there smile

It is hard to miss the area as you hike the High Peterskill Trail. Looks like somewhat of an unusual amount of vertical cracks for the area.

Is it not also visible from the Upper Carriage Road if you look straight west from the second bend to the right, when going north from the Welcome boulder?
If it is, I would think 30 routes would be a low number.
