Does anyone know of a source for info. on substances which are known to affect climbing rope, nylon slings and harnesses? I know battery acid can't be beat for destroying gear; but what about bird droppings? I ran into a great quano deposit on P2 of Higher Stannard the other day. Won't climb THAT pitch again!

I haven't heard of urea causeing damage to nylon. It can beat the mess out of some organics and oxidize many metals. Might not hurt to get everything washed. Beter yet, take it all out and wear it for a nice hike today :0
