As of March 12, 2010, the Mohonk Preserve has announced the following route closures at the Trapps cliff:

Due to nesting peregrine falcons, the section of the Trapps cliff between, and including the routes Credibility Gap (5.6) and Bitchy Virgin (5.6) is temporarily closed to rock climbing.

  • Do not use ascent trails or rappel routes that access this area.
  • Do not use the section of the cliff base climber's trail between these routes.
  • Please refrain from excessive noise making while in the vicinity of this closure.

We appreciate your cooperation.

Crud, so much for my plan to hop right on Le Teton to start the season.

Not a great option this time of year anyway. Save it for a hot day in the summer after the closure is lifted. That route is great on a swealtering August day.

Nah, IMO its never too early for that 'holy crap' moment when you first step out there. That route does it to me every time. Stupid birds.

BOOO I was already to do it this weekend... feeling all strong from ice season... come August, I'll be all weak and have no upper body strength once again. Right now, I could almost do a pull-up!!! Yahoo!

Copper, with all due respect.....you're completely insane!! The sentence "that route is great on a sweltering August day" is a fundamental paradox! There are no great routes for a sweltering August day, only levels of suckiness. Le Teton is less sucky on a hot day then Feast Of Fools, but it still SUCKS!

Le Teton stays comfortable on all but the hottest of hot days. I like to save it for those hot days as it is just about as comfortable a route as you can find in the summer. I always find it to be chilly this time of year. Just trying to give some comforting rationalization for not being able to climb it now. It is always a great route, I just prefer it when it is hot.
