>Developer to Destroy Cathole!!

As it stands, Cathole Pass, home of some of the best rock climbs in CT such as Jaguar, Pegasus, and Mind Bender, is slated to be demolished and excavated to make way for condos.

The Meriden Planning Commission approved the construction of 36 condos which require Cathole Pass to be leveled. The Planning Director is opposed to this action and the city has filed a court case against the Planning Commission.

The decision to level Cathole goes against city ordinance as well as the State Ridge Protection Bill.

Apparently there will be a court hearing coming up within the next month or two regarding this issue. The Ragged Mountain Foundation will work to prevent the destruction of Cathole Pass; however, we need your help! Please do your part in calling, and writing, the city of Meriden to find
out more information, express your concern, and help us lobby to preserve Cathole Pass. The Meriden Planning Department can be reached at (203) 630-4081. Please spread the word about this situation.

Apparantly there was misinformation in the email that I recieved yesterday. I recieved the following email today:

This is a correction to the Cathole story issued yesterday.

Cathole Pass

The current understanding is that the hill nearby would be leveled. That may rattle Cathole and make it looser, but the climbing area is not slated for demolition. This agrees with previous understanding and the inquiries from
the AMC to the city's office just yesterday.

Even if its not getting leveled, will we still be able to climb there? Who owns it now and will they continue to allow climbing once the condos go in?
