FWIW, most people out here consider Idaho to be part of the PNW.
That's just the panhandle - it's like a different state. But that SE corner, south of I-84 and Pocatello and east of Twin Falls, is most definitely the Intermountain west and much more a part of the Rockies than the PNW.
I just think Leavenworth is way over-rated. I guess I resurrected this thread because I miss the Gunks so much. There's nothing like it out here. The alpine climbing is supreme but I rarely go cragging any more. I'm spoiled by what I experienced on the east coast.
Dude, no one moves to WA on the wet side of the Cascades and expects to go cragging regularly! Of course Skaha is only about 5.5 hrs from Monroe - about what Stannard did to get to the Gunks each weekend when he lived in Silver Springs MD.
