I hadn't been there in a while, so I don't know how long ago it occurred, but when was the tree cut from Horseman? Was it damaged in a storm?

It was cut a few weeks ago - well after the storm that cleaned out other trees from the Ufall area. I don't know, but assume that the Preserve cut it in advance of it becoming a safety hazard.

I took some photos on May 1 which show the tree seeming to be very much alive. I was really surprised they chopped it, and a little sad. That one and the tree above Apoplexy/Coronary, they were friends to me.

That tree has been dead for some time.

Okay, looking at my photo, I may have been confused:



I think I may have confused leaves on the foreground tree for leaves on the Horseman tree. On closer inspection that tree may have had nothing growing on it on May 1. My bad.

+1 what Ryan said, it's been dead and it's better it's cut so desperate beginners don't pull on it...

They left enough stump so that people are still slinging it!

Are my eyes bugging out, or is the climber in that picture making the crux move in a horizontal position?

The reason I took the photo was that this pair was making the climb look so much harder than it is!

ahaha, good catch, RR! is the guy trailing a rope for a 3rd person? that's some uncomfortable belay even for a party of 2!
