Kathy I have tried that approach and it works very well, if you have the money and the time. I have neither right now. I'm gonna go swing my tool inside my chest freezer now Lemme know how that goes over with your better half. Without ice for her soda, mine gets a bit cranky.

And no, there is not much in this world better then a sub frozen flask of Jameson to send a little fire down your throat after a few hours of slaying it up. Nothing....

Those 5 months are going to seem even longer with this weekend's forecast. Highs of 99 here in NJ. About 95 up in Ulster. Ugh.

Its has to be Jameson, just cheap enough not to promote rationing, just good enough to remind you why you are alive and climbing ice.

The forum is Ice Climbing and this thread is an argument about whiskies. Ya gotta love Gunks.com! oeno, Whiskey to ice climbing is like Budwiser to Nascar. It would be odd not to include it in any conversation about ice.

Ethnicity doesn't factor in Ice climbing. If you are there, you do it and then you drink. If you don't, its more for the rest of us(In terms of ice to climb and drinking).... simple.
So Ono, Do you know the different between Scotch and Whiskey?

Actually RR, Scotch does not have to be a single malt, (Dewars, Chivas & Johnnie Walker to name a few are all blends) But it does have to be from Scotland. If you run out of Jameson stop by the house I think I have about 7 Scotches you may sample while you wait for ice season!

Just thought I'd wade in with my own choice of scotch >Talisker<
I never understood why people liked the stuff until I tried that one. Yum!

I was thinking about ways to stay in shape for ice-climbing season, besides the regular stuff (rock climbing, running, etc.) I would not try to drytool in the Gunks of course, but perhaps in some other locales? Catskills come to mind, because, well, rock is chossy for the most part and all scarred from mixed climbing anyway. Another idea I had was to find some dead trees and climb them. What do you all think about that?

I have some rubber cover picks for my Grivels that I can use on my home wall, but rarely do so.

roughly 5 months..........grrrr!
But hey i got my official AAC flask from the competition this spring. Jameson and ice...doesn't get any better! Have you tried Baileys? I became a convert skiing last year, wouldn't touch the stuff when its above freezing point. It also must be fresh, so you have to finish the bottle each day! If you want to drink cheap Irish whiskey, try Powers, much nicer than Jameson.
