I am thinking of heading to Thailand from December 20th to January 3rd and would like to make sure I get a good place to stay and don't miss any good deals.

The main goals of the trip are:
+ Climbing
+ Snorkeling
+ Partying
+ Cultural trips on recovery days...
+ more Climbing

Any tips on airfare, lodging, food or other local beta would be great... Is there a guide book?
What are the cultural spots to see while in the area?
Should I stay in the south or take a road/boat trip?

If anyone else is planning to be there at the same time let me know.

Thanks,
-T

first of all STAY LONGER! if you only have those days then concentrate on the S.(krabi) i just borrowed guidebookls. there are LOTS of people there then. a rounnd trip bkk to krabi should run about 110 bucks. i will pm a thai airways rep in NYC. this way you will get the good price. so far 705 + tax is the best i found. check the NY times travel section and start calling around.
you can do everything on your list in krabi. stay on ton sai beach. it is cheeper than railay, and has more climbers

Eddie is THE MAN for beta on Thailand.

Here are some website too:

For the North:

Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures

The Peak

For the South

King Climbers
http://www.railay.com/railay/climbing/climbing_intro.shtml

Tex's Rock Climbing
http://www.texrockclimbing.com/

Simon Foley

There are a couple of others but that will get you started. The Simon Foley site has a discussion board--worth checking out.

And, yes, stay longer! It is great here.

Expect crowds that time of year, though.

Search the climbing trip report forum. I wrote a report on my trip there at that time about 2 years ago.
