Maybe I just never noticed before, but the bolts at the first pitch belay for Snookey's both have lichen growing on them. Talk about your camo! Nature finds a way again.

Certainly not from the lack of use. Persistent stuff this lichen. We need more acid rain to keep the stuff at bay.

More indications that the "lichen takes hundreds of years to grow" characterization is false. I've posted this before, but anyone who thinks we need to tip-toe around lichen should look at the photo in the Swain guide of the top pitch of The Hounds. Clean swath of rock up the lichen field. 15 years later the line of the climb is totally covered in lichen again.

Agreed, the lichen growing on the asphalt roof shingles of my house will soon have it looking like a hobbit hole.
