#553 - 07/25/00 07:10 AM need Hueco advice

I'm a new climber, who just started climbing this past
spring, but I'm head over heels. I've just convinced some non-climbing friends to stop in Hueco on our way to LA from
San Antonio. I'm incredibly excited, the only other place I've climbed is the Gunks. Since I don't know how to lead, I'm looking for some good recomendations on where to go bouldering.... that is, unless someone gets this who will already be out there and wants a partner for a day or two. I can climb 5.8/5.9 at the gunks, and v-1, maybe v-2 if I'm lucky. I also wouldn't mind a recomendation on where to stay, eat, etc. I know there's a guide book out there. Is it worth picking up, is it out dated? Thanks for any advice you can give.

You should chech with the folks at Hueco Tanks State Park before you go. The regulations concerning visiting the park are quite cumbersome and not well suited to just dropping in for a few days w/o advance reservations.

I suspect you will find the hassles of visiting not worth the effort to detour through El Pisso.
