In the hope that there will still be winter in the White Mountains in a couple of weeks, we are thinking of taking a few days off to go to NH and do the Presidential Traverse.

Options:

a) Travel light with necessary winter have-to's just in case (emergency shelter, sleeping bag, stove, some food, etc) and do it in a (really long) one-day push, starting in the dark and ending in the dark (despite the twelve-hours of daylight).

b) Do it in two days with a heavier pack.

Any Traverse veterans out there? Suggestions?

Thanks!

Mim, here is a TR from a Presi Traverse earlier this season. This one includes some ice climbing, both up and down at key locations along the traverse. About 14 hours car to car. A good read, some good photos, and some inspiration. Good luck to you both.

Certainly doable in a day as long as the snow isn't so deep to require snowshoes. I think you could ski it and save a lot of downhill time but don't have any experience with doing so. My biggest worry with that is that the steepest descent will be at the very end when you are already very tired.
We will need a TR!

No TR after all... unfortunately (long story). Going to work, no vacation, and partner needs a very much well-deserved good night sleep before we can even fanthom going away... hasn't had one in over six months... since the accident.

He'll sleep well after the Traverse! 'Course it helps if you aren't stumbling through the whole thing from lack of sleep.
