Look for an orthopaedic surgeon that is a sports medicine specialist as well as an ankle specialist. Most ortho practice websites will have bios for the docs. Look for ones that have been team doctors. They are much more likely to understand your need to get back to you sport. I had a bad ankle fracture and I figured out that most ortho docs feel the only goal is to get you back to work...what use is that?

I recently had a shoulder issue (rotator cuff tendonitis) and went to a shoulder/sports medicine ortho surgeon. He told me if you tell me this I'll just tell you to rest it but if you tell me this I'll give you a cortisone shot and no rest necessary. Basically he was coaching me to say what I needed to say in order to get insurance to cover the injection. It worked...I was back to full climbing ability in 1 week. He was a hockey team doctor...it was his job to get those guys back to playing as soon as possible...and he did the same for me.

Thanks, Valpine! I'll look around. My insurance company website doesn't show any profile other than the title (MD, blah blah).

Lisa, I sent you a pm.

Turmeric is awesome, often recommended for chronic arthritis, and been used for thousands of years in ayurvedic medicines.

Great cooking with soups, meals, etc but down and dirty daily I dust my breakfast cereal/oatmeal or make a cup of tea with it:

6-8ox almond milk
1/4-1/4 tsp turmeric
little honey

Cook on stovetop, careful not to scald, add honey after done cooking.

Can also make a paste with black pepper and h20 - cook mixture on stove and paste lasts for a week to add to toasts, meals etc.

I order in bulk from mountain rose herbs - I think it's like 7 bucks a pound for organic.
