So we're coming down this Monday. Plan so far is to hit Dirty Chimney and The Flake. Knowing my boys (5,7) they may want to hit something a bit more airy. Any suggestions on setting up a TR for a single pitch up to the GT ledge? I was thinking P1 of Easy O but if I recall the first few moves may be too reachy for them. I'm basically looking for a jugfest on an open face with holds close enough for the kids.

Thanks,
D

Daryl,

It's a bit too late now, but next time you go with your kids, hit Peterskill. It's only $7 to climb and TRs are super easy to set up, just head over to the Bunkbed Wall - it's perfect for beginners and kids. Nice face climbs with enough holds and the wall dries off fast, very short walk from the parking lot and chemical toilets with running water. Great views of other Minnewaska cliffs to the South and Catskill Mountains to the North. Plus blueberries are coming in! If you don't want to buy the guidebook, just print out the Bunk Arete section from Mountainproject.com.

The nice thing about Peterskill is that there is not much loose rock on top and no other climbers dropping ropes and gear on you.

I was considering Peterskill but I'm completely unfamiliar with the area.
I ended up setting up a TR on Dirty Chimney, a bit dull for the kids as the moves about 20' up were just too reachy for them. I ended up setting up a TR juuuust to the left (ish) of the Uberfall Descent and they had a blast. My oldes son was able to climb all the way up to the tree on top ( 60' ish). They loved it. We also went for a hike along the Millbrook trail and then the kids played on the Colorfullls boulder for a good while. Kids are begging me to go back!

Nice job, D. Ending the day with ice cream is also helpful in making a great day that will have them begging for more.
