A friend went out there yesterday and the ranger told him that the area will be closing in a week for a while to let the forest recoop.

how does one close an area with no trails directly to it?
in my opinion that area sees minimal useage(one herd path)so i am skeptical. I found nothing on mp website? hope its not true as its a lovely area for hermits like me.

not only is the herd path a problem, there were trees cut, there was moss scraped off top outs, there were landing zone issues, although I have not seen it myself I heard enough about it. the access fund has a publication about just these sorts of things that boulderers would do well to avoid in order to prevent closures. the area needs to recover.

Moss scraping? Landings leveled? Sounds to me like typical bouldering. Moss and rough ground are not part of the modern bouldering scene, any more than chalk-free holds are part of a busy free climbing scene. I'm not sure a temporary closure will be the answer.

anyone know if the area is off limits still?
did this sort of stuff happen when the trapps was being developed as its not exactly a shining example of leave no trace either, i see tons of herd paths, cut trees, cleared landings and topouts, sculpted crag trails, staircases etc.
Seems to me that the mp doesnt want new areas developed...gonna go strap on the kevlar now!

WTF is wrong with you to even ask? Just kidding, thought you would want to test out the kevlar body armor since you already had it on.
