I dont have any experience with climbing out West, so I was looking for some advice. I am planning on taking my week of vacation in the first week of October and was hoping to go to Yosemite, possibly with a stop in Lake Tahoe. Could you typically expect decent weather for climbing this time of year? Thanks in advance.

Yosemite and most of the Sierra in October is great. Our month there one Oct was a bit dry, but the weather was near perfect the entire time and of course the summer tourists are long gone.
Enjoy.

There are some years that the Sierras will get significant snowfall in early October, so you may need to be flexible. The road through Tuolomne will close for decent snow, but often melt out completely within a day or two later. Nights will be cold. October is usually perfect in the Valley but watch the weather, as tremendous storms can occur. Places like Donner's Pass and the Leap will likely be spectacular as well.
I miss October...

I want to second Chip -- late September is our cutoff for Yosemite. Any later and weather becomes too much of a roll-of-the-dice for 3,000 miles of travel, etc. Obviously the earlier in October the better. Hell, starting in October the Adirondacks start to see snow.

Its usually the best time to climb there (having lived in San Francisco from 1998 to 2005 and climbing there every weekend) BUT you can have MASSIVE snowstorms, like ones that kill the unprepared.

Expect the days to be sunny with temperatures around 65 to 70F and around 20% humidity.
