Peoples opinions seem to change on the subject, so who do we like for resoles these days?

I have been using Rock & Resole in Boulder - they have a quick turnaround, also heard good things about Shoe Doctor up in Plattsburg.

My Resole Status:

Although I had recently given up resoling, in my experience, the two resolers metioned here have always been reliable.

Last time I checked, perhaps a year ago, RR was charging almost $100 for half soles, rands and shipping. R&R was as usual a bit less. At that time I paid $125 for new Katana's, the first in a long time I could not find them for under $100. I have never had a pair of resoles last as long as new shoes, and occasionally trying different resolers ended up wasting money and a pari of shoes.

Anyway, I see that they are back to their normal rates of app $60 and I have shoes to send them. In the mean time I let some wear to far to be worth resoling and tossed them.

Oh to answer the question: No change in where to send them for me. But now with pricing returned to normal I will resole them instead of wearing them completely out.

I used Mark Meschinelli in the Dacks last fall for a pair of climbing shoes and a pair of Cirque Pros. He did a great job with quick turn around, real pros.

Note that with their order form they give a fax #. I filled out the form, faxed it and then shipped the shoes. I got them back about a week and change later looking great with a note saying, "hey Joe, just give a call when you can to pay us". I called right off with cc info and told him I'd faxed the form, he said, "oh, we don't have a fax machine". Old school.

I'm game and I'll report back - though I regretted it last time I wrote this because I really wanted to like the resoler. Unfortunately the shoes were almost unwearable.

Must be trying to support a "local" since $35 + (2 * 9) + 5 = $58 isn't really less that the two resolers I already trust.

The Rubber Room charged me 60 for C4 rubber and they did some stitching for free and returned my shoes when they said they would.

I do take mine to mark meschinelli because i live nearby and it's very convenient. Also, he's done a good job every time except one - and that one time, took them back and he fixed them up right.

I would be in the "have given up resoling" camp except...

...Scarpa discontinued the only model of shoes I've found so far that have the magical property that a single pair will stretch jussssttt...barely....enough...to properly fit my two 3/4-size-different, frostbit-sensitive beat up old dogs. One of those shoes is now verging on needing a rand repair, and I know well that that usually changes the size and stretch considerably, so I'll have to send them somewhere.

Had good luck with Cobbler&Cordwainer for years and then some very, very bad results on a pair of shoes I really liked. Met a roving climber/cobbler in Wyoming who resoled my shoes with my feet in them giving a much better fit than they'd had before the resole! I doubt I'll ever get service like that again (but if anyone dirtbagging out West runs into Alf the cobbler, tell him I said hi). I guess I'll have to try the resoling lottery again with this pair of Scarpas. Maybe I'll try Mr. Meschinelli -- I do like to support locals when I can.

I've just received back two pair of shoes that I sent to Yosemite Bum. Prices and turn-around time were just what they said they would be (half soles and rands came in at $47 ea.) One pair was a pair of Scarpa Marathons (a discontinued model) that I use extensively in the mountains and on extended climbs. These fit so well that they're now on their third set of soles. They were in need of repair to the uppers as well as revitalizing the bottoms. The other was a pair of Acopas. I'm willing to pay ca. $100 for the resoling of these shoes since neither is replaceable.

I've tried the Scarpas and the fit continues to be as comfortable as before the operation. I haven't climbed in the Acopas yet, but when simply trying them on again, they seemed to fit pretty much the same as before.

Of the two sets of shoes I've sent to YosBum previously, one held up very well. The other began to show some delamination around the toe area of the soles as they became worn down. In a phone conversation, YosBum told me they would repair the soles, but at that point they really needed replacement.

Overall, my assessment is positive, but like Empi I'm also interested in what others have experienced with resoling.

I use Yosemite Bum for my Evolv shoes, and every time they have done a good job. My Pontas went through three resolves and they still going strong. I think if they resolve with other brands of rubber, I would love to send all my shoes to them.

I think no matter where you go, you're always going to get the occasional shoe that starts delaminating after resoling. that's just how it goes with climbing shoes.

Plattsburgh Shoe Hospital just did an excellent job with 2 of my pairs of Technos. The soles and rands look and feel great. Their customer service is amazing. I sent in my shoes with credit card info and in the interim I lost my card and had it cancelled. When they went to charge it, it was denied. He sent the shoes anyway...said I could wait to pay until I got my replacement card. He was more concerned about getting my shoes back to me before the weekend so I wouldn't miss any climbing. What a guy!
