I will be again headed to the southwest this winter and it would be great to have someone along to share the travel expenses. I've got a climber-rigged van with 2 seats and sleep platform. Will have some room for extra stuff, but have to admit I am not the lightest packer... so hopefully you travel sort of light.

Will be headed to southern Utah, mid to late October. Route traversing the country is open, though if it is heavy snow in north I would be leary to do that.

OR!

If you have a pet that needs to be brought west while you go by air - I might be the one to help! I do have Teddy(dog) so another dog is best. teddy would probably annoy the hell out of your cat, rabbit, ferret or parrot.

OR!

If you have some goods that need to get transported, I can do that(legal goods, of course).

Email with any questions.

Wow using gunks.com as a sort of travel agent/moving company. I like it. Track down a guy named James Reyes and I may have use for it.

I have no idea who James Reyes is, but... I'm not a travel agent/moving company. Just a person who doesn't really have enough money to get by comfortably who will be homeless for the winter if I don't get to the south where I can live out of my van!

If this James Reyes is someone who you think might be headed west and looking to share ride/expenses - since you apparently know who that is - feel free to let them know of this posting.

and same as a bove probably knows this. They registered simply to respond to you. Gunks.com has always been an atractive place for single person, many account trolls.

Bump! Departure date is Halloween! a/k/a 10/31. Though I can delay a day or 2 if I get an interested person who must party that night. But come on - wouldn't it bee eerily entertaining to spend halloween ...trying... to sleep at a sketchy highway rest stop!?

oooh dear...I just - luckily - asked a potential ride share for her(and b/f's, who she seemed to think would not have an effect on the sharing of gas payments) full names.... You think trolling the forums for CLIMBING partners is risky!?

Now I have to either come up with a story about "my friend is coming instead" or something.... where to star? spamming twitter for pay, softcore porno shots on Myspace....(I know I have the right person, but the bf not so sure but...if it was - then, no - I do not care for an angry white gangster wannabe in my car for days...

No climbers headed west wanting a rideshare? What - you'd rather fly for less time and money or something????

I suspect I'm not the only one who has NO IDEA what this means. You're scamming someone? You are looking for pornos to ride with? I thought you were offering a ride west.

Bringing race into any conversation is contentious.
Hanging out in crag lots ritually and not knowing any beta is just as weird to me as traveling across country with someone met on the Internet.

I think she was drunk when she posted that.

Terrie, sounds like you are making a good decision not to spend time with that "couple". Good luck finding someone else. Maybe this is a good year to just do the drive without other humanoids?

Mike - you probably just wanted details and a link to the porno girl site... hahahah

Sorry if my post was not clear... I just got my laptop back from repair, was doing multi-task catch up and..

What happened was - I googled the person and came up with her twitter and Myspace profiles. It *appears* (on Myspace) that she posts those sorts of solicitous soft-core pics with the intent to get guys to email her(on bed, naked but for a pair of transparentish panties with rear in the air, "come hither" eyes with camera more focused on chest area, which has shirt pulled down to reveal pretty much all that is allowed before image not acceptable on site.

On the Twitter one, she posts those lines that spammers use to get you to click on links. Over and over...

She lists being a go-go dancer as one occupation, and also that she really likes to party.

I know it is the same as who I was emailing, as several details matched.

The b'f, who she made sound like would be not coming along, until I asked outright, I am not so sure I found the match, as the name was less unique. But the image on one social site looks pretty similar to a person in one of her images and he looked like one of those types that is probably nice enough....until.

I would definitely rather not have partners, as I don't put on a lot of miles per day, and I am used to solitude. Plus, it's not like I have a new van under warranty....

Oh, and the girl who was yesterday "very excited" - and informed me that the amount she "would pay" which would likely have been about $100 less than the share of gas IF it was shared 50/50 - but when you go out to eat, do you tell your friends at meals end, that since you are a couple, your share is the same as a single unit???

Anyway - I emailed that someone I knew had decided to come, was going to go the whole way, and was also a climber, and we would stop along the way(yeah....I couldn't just say 'I decided against this arrangement." - and she has come back "in tears. Her grandpa died and she just wanted to get home, and was I sure there wouldn't be room for them."

Oy veh.

Did they hint they expoected you to run the camera for their next photoshoot? Otherwise I guess I don't really see why it would be an issue.

On the other hand, if that plus other things hint that they aren't the partner(s) for your trip, why not just tell them that:
- you aren't a fan of the spam
- trying to be stingy with the gas money up front sets a bad precedent you just don't want to deal with
- you are just lookng for someone whose goals/interests align better with yours
- blah blah blah

It just doesn't seem like a big deal. By playing games are you forcing yourself to to withdraw from fishing for partners wherever she found you so you don't get "caught"?

Also, don't airlines have discounted bereavement flights if you provide proof of death? Maybe that would help her and you to get her a different option.

Doug, I know it was stupid of me to just not come out and say "Sorry, I think not." I have my own issues and one is an instinctual fear of "iffy" people and what they might do when they don't get what they want.

I worried that the person might be insulted that I would reject her and who the hell knows - people can be vindictive over strange things. I had experience with such types. I also did worry, after seeing the guy who may/may not be the b/f, of walking out of a highway rest stop bathroom and finding my van has left without me....

I got the vibe of grifty type(I had asked if leaving a few days after the 10/31 date I'd posted would be okay for her, as I'd realized I might like a bit more time to get organized. She said "Okay, so long as it is early on 11/1, so I don't have to pay rent. Now maybe they live in a pay-as-you-go place but.... most people give a notice of vacating tenancy).

So yeah, I am making more of a deal than need be. Guess I got post diahreah since I have been without computer for so long and on minimal access.

This thread is useless without pictures.

What a tangled story! Perhaps someone can make a screenplay out of it.

hahah - it could be part in the saga that began when I was a naive n00b. and went down south to "get a gtour of the many destinations."

We ended up in ONE crappy spot, with the guy coming on to me nonstop. I did end up learning the most rudimentary trailworking skills(pile the duff at the low side of a trail on a slope and it will decompose into a dirt level eventually....). But, I made a joke about the guy probably *teaching trailwork* to the various women he fooled into coming down, and then once they left undoing it all, only to do the same work with the next one... My imagination took off and - well, I did plot an outline, which is as of yet still in my head.

But you know what I think would make a GREAT screenplay? The novel "Burning Daylight" by Jack London. It's so graphic, and has romance, hard playing, gambling and adventure very well intertwined. If anyone knows anything about writing screenplays and getting them seen - I would really be interested in this one....

Why do they know so much about you that this is a worry for you? At this point, they really should have no clue as to your real name or how to find you. You might want to reconsider how much of your life and details you publicly post. You also might want to read one of those advice articles about telling your kid what is and is not appropriate to place on their Facebook page.
