Groundfall and nasty head wound. I saw him fall out of the corner of my eye and pluck a few pieces out before hitting the rocks below.

Any word on how the poor guy is doing? He was at least conscious when they arrived.

That sucks. Someone told me there was an ambulance at the bridge this morning. Hope they are well, that is a nasty fall there

Two ambulances went up the hairpin around 2-3 PM Sunday.

pluck a few pieces out before hitting the rocks below.

Alas, how much of our protection is illusory?

I climb like it all is. And Iilgner can go climb a rock.

Sorry to hear about this and best wishes for a speedy recovery. Hope we get some insight how this happened once the dust settles.

Understandable. But I recall having pieces pull out from under me as I led, even when I'd heartily tugged on them after placement. This led me to be wary and rendered me fearful on many a lead. Is there a lesson in this? I can't say. And like Ianmanger, I offer best wishes for a speedy and painless recovery.

Not the first I have heard pull out gear on that route, sadly. Hoping for quick healing.

Definitely funky gear on that one in that flaring slippery crack. The only thing left was one nut in the vertical crack just at the start.

I think that's the route Mike Cimino broke his back on in 2003ish. I believe he was guiding a client at the time. They even did an article on it in Climbing magazine I think. Talked about how he had the route wired from climbing it so many times and only protected the crux with a blue alien or something comparable, skipping an obvious nut placement. When I saw him about a year after the accident he was climbing again, albeit with a harness that resembled a weight lifter's belt.

The climber is a friend of mine. Seems he doing well, and it appears so far that he will not be dealing with any long term issues. I was not there, so I can't comment on the details of the fall.

Be safe out there.

Great to hear... He wasn't looking good at all on Sunday. He's a lucky man for sure.

My wife loaned him her Blue Patagonia pullover to cover himself up with while waiting for the backboard. If they've still got it just drop me a line at fearnot@emailcorner.net.

Actually going to call him in a few minutes, will pass this along, as I just heard about it this morning. Guess we won't be doing any climbing in Moab over Thanksgiving. Heard second hand that he's doing well but Brit is one tough Hombre.
