I gave up climbing because of arthritis in my toes. I kept my gear thinking my sons might be interested, but they aren't.

So, I have a duffel full of 10 year old gear. It has only been top roped on, never dropped, never taken any falls, never abused, etc. etc. My rope could pass as new. (we always used my climbing partner's gear for trad.)

Can it safely be used? I'd like to sell it, just to get rid of it, but don't want to sell anything unsafe.

(Just as an aside, I figured I would have to give up XC skiing also, but that doesn't bother me. Go figure.)

good luck getting a printed response on this webpage - New York is a highly litigious state.

All of that said, I use some gear that's 10+ years old and I feel very comfortable on it. Just sayin'...

In a nutshell, ten year old hardware is fine, ten year old soft goods are suspect.

we were out at the mac wall on sat., and an older (70+ years) hungarian gentleman showed up with his wife. his harness and most of his gear, and his rope, looked about 40 years old (and his harness looked homemade) and he was ripping it up. very cool. make of it what you will, I guess. but anyway, if you want to sell old gear take it to the R&S swap meet, that's what everyone does.

btw, anyone got any old jrat gear for sale? I collect it.

Maybe try losing the foot coffins and go for a street-shoe sized slipper.

The performance of foot-binding-tight rock shoes is way over-rated.
