Lost City never fails to dissapoint me. I've run end to end on that cliff looking for routes in my range, and just when I think I have tapped out all the 5.9 and 5.10 routes that I can find, yet more appear out of the perverbial mist. Beautiful 5.10a tight hands crack into a roof, follwed by 30 feet of exquisite steep arete climbing at 5.8. I had walked past this thing for years withotu ever seeing it. Just goes to prove that with just a little work, Lost City will never dissapoint. Remind me again why no one ever climbs there?? Oh yeah, that's right...there's no guide book. Thank God!

haven't climbed there in a few years... this year we've just been climbing in the trapps - and having a great time, we get lucky getting on great routes most every time, even on crowded weekends - like yesterday. recently we were scrambling around lost city without our climbing gear, and kept spotting all these great lines (i'd love to know where that hand crack / roof is) nonetheless we plan to go back and actually climb there soon... but when we return with gear, will we still find all those great lines we spotted? hope so...

Well, there is something.

Some people don't respect the history and requests of the Preserve. Yeah, it's not a printed guidebook, bot how easy is it for somoone to make one from that link. I know of at least one other website that has pictures, route names and ratings, even an overall view of the crag with route locations. Hey Donald, how about you take that link off of your post? All it serves to do is make more people visit the site.

Very good point RR. But, the same could be said for starting a thread such as this don't ya think?

Not really Rick. I'm not posting pictures or locations of routes. Simply talking about the climbing there. I think there is a difference

RR, anything that builds the stoke, or even the rep of a crag, will inevitably lead to an increase in interest. Always part of the risk when sharing info or insights, regardless of how well intentioned.

Rickster - it's not like Supertopo, RR can't delete his OP and make the thread go bye-bye. Donald is responsible for his posts, and only he and the webmaster can control what he says.

As for saying you really like a place, claiming that that is in any way equivalent to publishing a guidebook is just silly.

From what I understand, the whole fun about LC is keeping it a word-of-mouth and explore at your leisure kind of thing. What RR was doing was proclaiming how much fun it is, which in no way goes against those goals. No-one ever said LC should be a secret, or that you shouldn't say it's fun - merely that it should not be published.

I understand what RR was "proclaiming", it's quite obvious. And, I've not asked him to delete anything. I would be one of the last to censure.

I agree, a simple thread post has much less impact then a published guide. But, this thread is out there on the world wide web none the less, building stoke and drawing attention ( as does any further discussion).

Regarding publishing, sharing info via the web, word of mouth, slide shows, etc., I've been there, done that, and have seen first hand how it effects a climbing venue.

That all being said, if my point is still missed, then have at it.

I've done that corner and arete. It's really good. It's kind of hidden, I've also walked past it lots of times without even noticing it until a friend of mine put me on it. Super fun..

i was suprised to see the new touch screen display lining the model of the ridge at the visitor center features a small lost city blurb and 360 image.

I see where that will cover the arete but what did you use in the hand crack?
