As the weekend approaches I urge everyone to pay careful attention to tree anchors. In the past after heavy storms some anchors thought to be bulletproof became much less so. Don't assume a tree is still solid just because it has stood for many years and is a longstanding rap station. Hurricanes have a way of changing the landscape.

Perhaps it is worthwhile to re-post this picture? One thing that can happen is the entire soil anchor for the tree can come loose. Note the relatively new webbing...

With a proper belay of course, I always give rap trees some good tugs, watching carefully what the ground does when the tree is loaded.
