In a bit of heartbreaking news, I arrived this past weekend in New Paltz early on a Sunday, belly empty, looking forward to double breakfast burritos at the Bistro (next to EMS, across from the Brauhaus) and to my (and my hunger pains') dismay, my normal go-to breakfast place in New Paltz was no more. Shuttered, kaput, finito.

Anybody want to recommend a new sandwich place in town?

Something with quick service and huge sandwiches would be ideal.

Don't you think it is likely another will take over that place?

I heard the inside is empty - no note of explanation on door....so looks like it is really closed. I haven't heard anything though.

It would be great if someone DOES come in, but if they do, they would be silly not to take the time to do some refurbishing before opening.

The deli in Gardiner on Main Street is very good. Yummy sandwiches and other items. If coming up from the south, it's on the way.

In town, The Bakery is good and the long lines will make you feel right at Bistro home!

Those pesky taxes...they really get in the way of doing business.

I second the deli in Gardiner...it's very good.

Main Street Bistro in New Paltz is my mainstay, I keep them on speed dial. Lines are insane there, but if you phone ahead the takeout is usually ready.

Karma Road is also an option, too, but prices are a little on the side of Manhattan and I'm not sure if they are open early enough.

There's also a Subway in the plaza on the left as you enter the downtown region. A bagel store is on the right (coming from Thruway) in the Stop & Shop plaza.

Well, Jack's Deli in New Paltz makes decent sandwiches. It is on the right a few doors down from Mexicali Blue if coming from the Thruway. He also sells local grassfed beef and other meats.

No matter how good the restaurant/takeout places are in New Paltz and Gardiner, they are no substitute for the proximity of that deli.

Yeah, proximity. I like the Chelsea motel in Kerhonksen, and it's a long way to go all the way back to NP for stuff.

I'm sure it'll be back open soon enough.

I heard that a new person has come in and will again have a deli.

today I was hanging out at the picnic tables waiting for my van to be worked on at Beeks, and some electrical contractors were doing something inside. But I don't know what, or if it is related to a new business coming in.

There were also plenty of people who drove in not knowing it was closed. Probably at least one every ten minutes. Best of luck to the new proprietor for a successful venture!
