We tried Lessons in History last weekend... I absolutely could not figure out the (#4BD protected...) move on the first pitch, basically right off the ledge where the kink on red line is (yellow rock roof) on route number 9 on http://www.thewhitecliff.com/topos/images/history/historylg.jpg

Has anyone tried that and has any beta?
Thanks!
Michal

Hi Michal, Did you get your hands over the lip? If so you can tuck your left hip against the corner to reach higher holds. Just a heads up, the 3rd pitch crux is a world harder than that first roof.

Hmmm... thanks! I vividly remember some sloping moss on the high right smile That must be some high reach or some hold is gone - I believe I spent 1h hanging around that spot even trying aiding it through in the end.... Michal

Is there a pitch-by-pitch description of Lessons available? The picture/topo is great but it doesn\'t show belays, grades, or pitch-length(as far as I can tell)

Any particular gear beta, anything bigger than #2 C4 needed?

TIA

Leaving out the belays and the descriptions was intentional. Millbrook is largely about the adventure and some of us feel that knowing the script takes away from the story. I can say the line on the topo is spot on.
I think Millbrook is great, but if you are having doubts I would do some other 10\'s that have options for retreat. Lesson\'s is involved.
