Greetings from the New River Gorge, WV! We are writing to give you a friendly heads-up
about an event that is coming up this spring. Our local non-profit, climber advocacy group,
New River Alliance of Climbers, and the Access Fund, are hosting the first annual New
Eastern Climbers Rendezvous, May 16-18, here at the Gorge.
The purpose of the event is to promote climbing and the climbing industry, and to raise funds
for the maintenance of anchors, trails, and access. Which is to say: We want to get a whole
bunch of climbers together, celebrate climbing, and have a whole lot of fun! The New Eastern
Climbers Rendezvous will show off the diverse nature of the climbing at the New, as well as
provide an opportunity for climbers to try some of the other fun activities around here like
kayaking. There will be competitions for bouldering, climbing, and skills (pull-up, dyno, slack
line, bouldering pad sumo wrestling), as well as a short film contest. Plenty of non-competitive
activities and clinics will pepper the 3 day event. Top it off with a pancake breakfast, a catered
dinner and a rockin party, and you have the New Eastern Climbers Rendezvous.
Parents, this is a family friendly event! Bring your kids! We are offering a full-day kids
camp on Saturday. We will take good care of them!
We are excited about it. We feel that it is a good time to have a gathering of the clan. We
hope to stamp the event with the laid-back, friendly, inclusive feel that has characterized the
climbing scene at the New since its inception. We are especially pleased to be able to offer
free camping at Burnwood, one of the National Park Services aesthetic and convenient
facilities. That means you dont have to drive much. And there are even some great boulders
We hope we have whetted your appetite for fun.

A promotional flyer is also attached. If this event sounds worthy, and we hope it does, you
can help us out by printing the flyer and hanging it up in a climber-friendly place. Thanks for
helping out! By the way, if youd like to help out some more, we can use some volunteers!
Thanks for taking the time to read this. We hope to see you in May.
