Wheres the best place for steaks in the adirondacks?(Keene, Keene Valley, Lake Placid areas?)

There is a steakhouse on Main St in Placid that is good but $$$$.

End of July Fred, bob, and I went to the Hungry Troat and I had Prime Rib that was good.

I am told the Ausable Inn makes good steak in Keene Valley.

If the Ausable Inn does steak as well as they do burgers, you're in for a hell of a good meal.

Save the Ausable Inn prime rib for after a long, cold day of ice climbing. Man, that huge chunk of half cooked cow fat will taste amazing then.

After my first car died on the hill up out of keene, I rolled it back and managed to get to Keene Valley, just outside the ausable inn. Craig Holmes, the barkeep and son of the proprietor, took all $25 dollars I got for scrapping my car to some guy with a flatbed from Ausable Forks, and kept the Saranacs rolling until it was time for me to stumble up to the bear creek leanto. Ahh, the memory. Then me a my buddy drove his F100 back to Buffalo after a jump start from outside the same inn the next evening; we couldn't stop because it wouldn't start again, and the parking brake was broken so one of us had to stay in the truck while other ran out to pee.

I remember eating a wicked good filet mignon at a place on main street in LP on new year's eve. It was expensive, but really good. I think it's part of a hotel, just across the street and a bit down from the EMS. Moose something comes to mind....

oh how I miss my beloved adirondacks...and my first car, and my last car, and the piece of bone they chipped off my clavical 5 weeks ago, and my A1 pulley.....put me down for chissake! Or at least enjoy a fine cabernet with that steak empicard!

Best place for steaks in the daks - Whispering Pines Campground, Site 17 (right next to the Girl Scouts), walk up to the guy with the goatee at the grill, and say, "Empicard, I'll have mine medium rare".

Wilderness Inn. Couple miles past White Face, near Francis Betters fly fishing store. Just ate there a few weeks ago, excellent steaks!

DONT GO TO THE NOONMARK DINER, THE STEAKS THEY HAVE SUCK, AND SHOULD BE USED ONLY IN DOG FOOD

noonmark is for pie, breakfast, and soup. And, it's second to none. (And their roast beef ain't bad either!).

Noonmark is all right, pissed me off when they charge for extra syrup for your pancakes. As if the one little package is enough.

I am not saying that the Noonmark is not good for Breakfast or Pies, or even Ice Cream for that matter...

Their steaks suck...
FWIW, it was Steak and Egg breakfast

Their jelly has enough sugar to rot your teeth upon contact too

You can always cross the street for some vegitarian at the Cliff Hanger. A tofu steak?? Gross!!!!

The Tippy Canoe in Keene is Better, more food and FREE syrup!

Last winter I was camping by Chapel Pond, got up went to the Noonmark. Got a full stack of pancakes, they gave me this little package of syrup. I ask the waitress for some more and then charges me 1$ extra!!!! Witch wouldn't have been so bad, but they are already pricey and they charge for every cup of coffee. Go to the Tippy Canoe, much better breakfast and lunches.

So what did you get for that extra dollars worth of syrup? Did they bring you the bottle or just another one of them dinky little cups?

Nope, just a little pre-packaged container.

I don't think I would serve my dog that steak!!!! I recommend the Casa del Sol in Saranac Lake. No steak but killer Margaretas and good Mexican food. pretty inexpensive as well.

I recommend drag racing Strat up the mt. to L.P.B. (Lake Placid Brewery) Eat the Norman, drink pints of Barkeater, then repeat in reverse.

Smike, are you suggesting that we race down 73 from LP to Keene Valley, in reverse? that's an interesting proposition.

he best place for stakes when climbing inthe Adirondacks is in the ground. Unless it's winter time. In that case, snow stakes or rocks work best.

The Noonmark is a mandatory breakfast stop before a day of ice climbing. It's about damn time someone started charging you friggin addicts for every cup of coffee you drink. I get charged for every cup of OJ and hot chocolate, why should you get away scott free with bottomless cups of coffee. NON COFFE DRINKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway, there is a bar is Placid....can't remember the name...I think it has the name Joe's in it. back behind a large park off of the main street. Downstairs has a good bar with darts and pol, upstairs has another bar with tables and dinner. I seem to remember having a damn good steak there, although after a day of sub zero temps climbing grade 4 ice, I'll bet any steak would taste yummy.

Noonmark before ice climbing? Screw that! Get something to eat on the ride up, stop at the rest area just before exit 30 to leave a donation (inspired by that eveil drug coffee), and get climbing.
Ever since I stopped to get something to drink at noonmark on a sunday afternoon and had to wait for 10 minutes for a lady to make an ice cream cone for the person in front of me, I'm all done with that place. Besides, nobody goes there anymore, it's always too crowded!
