Time: 11:00 - 5:00

Hi Folks,

The Ragged Mountain Foundation (www.raggedmtn.org) invites all you gunks.commies to our annual picnic this Sunday, September 28th. Members and non-members welcome. Learn about the RMF and help support our efforts to preserve climbing in CT. Have an enjoyable day of climbing and FREE food; who could ask for anything more?

Chatfield Hollow is a Connecticut State Park with a well developed picnic ground, a swimming area, and a variety of climbs at all levels of difficulty. We will be setting ropes on many of the routes and we will have extra climbing gear available so you can introduce your kids or friends to climbing. In addition, Brien Roscetti, Mike Caouette, and Matt Shove will be teaching basic self rescue techniques such as belay escape. For more information about this climbing area, see http://www.raggedmtn.org/crags/chatfieldhollow.htm

Directions:
From North Madison where route 79 meets 80, go east on 80 for Approx. 3 miles. Park entrance will be on left. From Route 9, take exit 5 make a right, follow signs to Route 80 west past Winthrop & Killington look for Park entrance on right.

To reach the climbing area, follow trail signs west out of the picnic area.

Alternate parking (closer to cliff), 0.3 miles west of park entrance. Look for dirt pullout on opposite side of road. To reach cliff - cross the street and head west (away from entrance) about 50 yards. There is a small group of rocks/cliff on the right side of the road, at the end of the rocks there is a guardrail. Between the rocks and guardrail is where the trail starts; it almost immediately splits right and left, go left and down and you'll be at the cliffs in about 5 minutes or less.
