Rappel anchors

I'm sure many Gunks.com readers have seen the thread on Supertopo about Jim Donini's close call. A fixed rappel sling broke under his body weight but fortunately there was a backup.
Many 'Gunks climbers seem to have an unquestioning reliance on fixed slings: it's worth a read.

That's because we're not a bunch of pussies. I'd rather die rapping off an old sling than succumb to the gym rat mentality. Keep your bolts off my cliff gumbies!
