Best swimming holes in Ulster County - 07/22/11 12:49 AM

With this hot weekend ahead, I think it'd be fun to spend a day visiting the best swimming spots around. I'd love to hear your ideas. My list so far:

Coxing (split rock)
Awasting
Blue Hole (Peekamoose Rd)
That waterfall by Devil's Kitchen, which is not truly a swimming hole but you sure can get a good shower there.

Any other ideas?

DK is probably in Greene Co. But maybe include Fawn's Leap if you're including the Catskills. It's just upstream of Moores Bridge in Kaat. Clove.

That hole is nice....big enough to actually swim in. About 6 and half feet deep and 30-35' across. Definitely a locals hole though. It's on the Peterskill, about a 1/2 mile upstream of the Rondout.

Locals will need to help me, but I remember well driving down a short road off to the left on the way to Kerhonkson (44/55 west) and a short trail to the top of a waterfall with some nice swimming. I am sorta expecting it is illegal swimming on PIPC controlled land. Serious ice climbing potential but I can't remember the name of the falls.

i heard fawns leap is the shazbot, but have never been.
swimming in the rondout at high falls can be fun, seen people boulder outta the water an dive off the ledge, crowded on weekends.

Alas, Fawn's Leap is not in Ulster County. It is in Greene Couinty.
