camping during crowded week-ends - 04/10/11 03:55 PM

I am not use with this forum, therefore I am not sure that I am posting this in the appropriate section...

Now that the MUA access will be restricted to 81 campers, where could I camp during Easter always crowded week-end if there are no vacancy?
Thank you for your advices and inputs,
Eric

There are some campgrounds in the area, such as KOA, where you pay for your spot.

Thank you Chip! I will consider that option.
Seeing the price of my membership (that expires in may) and the cost of the gas to get there (from Canada), I will reconsider getting a new membership if I do not find something really affordable... It would make me sad since I was getting confortable in the hard 5.10 range and there are still so much to discover in the Gunks for me!

This question may be a bit outside the scope of this thread: is the cost of climbing rising faster than the cost of living?

Creekview in Rosendale is still open. Tent camping is ten bucks per person per night.

I have friends who look forward to using the pay campgrounds a couple times each year as a little family vacation with toddlers and young folk.

I have a toddler and find campgrounds as great mini vacations also, the interesting comment was jokingly in regards to the name.
my brother in law and nephew stayed there last year after they couldn't find a spot at sundown. they said it was fine.

Hi Rob, thanks for letting me know about my address.

My only gunks.com message is a welcome one though... We have met few times (ice climbing presentation for instance), i'm looking forward for your message.

Oenophore, in my region, the climbing situation is getting horendous : they close access to tons of sites and privatise others, which means that we now need to pay for numerous memberships to enjoy climbing legally. Too bad climbing is so fun!

Climbingclown, it sounds like climbers in your area could use some representation from the Access Fund. I reocmmend you come up with a list of things that have recently occurred, or could occur soon, that will hurt your access and/or experience climbing in your area and send that along to them. You may even have a local access fund chapter you're not aware of, and they can get you in contact with them so you can help in such matters when they come up. The more voices the more clout.
